But what exactly is Ethereum Classic, and how did it come to be?<\/p>\n<p>To understand Ethereum Classic, we must first look at its predecessor, Ethereum. Ethereum is a decentralized platform that enables developers to build and deploy smart contracts and decentralized applications (dapps). In 2015, Ethereum conducted a successful initial coin offering (ICO) to fund its development, raising over $18 million in just a few weeks.<\/p>\n<p>However, in 2016, the Ethereum community was rocked by a controversial decision to reverse a hack that resulted in the theft of $50 million worth of Ether, the native currency of the Ethereum platform. This decision led to a split in the Ethereum community, with some members believing that the blockchain&rsquo;s immutability had been compromised.<\/p>\n<p>As a result, Ethereum Classic was born. It is essentially the original Ethereum blockchain, before the hack was reversed. This means that Ethereum Classic retains the principles of decentralization, immutability, and censorship resistance that are at the core of blockchain technology.<\/p>\n<p>Since its inception, Ethereum Classic has undergone significant developments and improvements. The development team behind Ethereum Classic has been working tirelessly to enhance the platform and make it more user-friendly and secure.<\/p>\n<p>One of the key developments for Ethereum Classic was the implementation of the Atlantis hard fork in September 2019. This upgrade introduced several improvements to the platform, including improved security and performance, as well as compatibility with Ethereum&rsquo;s Byzantium and Constantinople upgrades.<\/p>\n<p>Another important milestone for Ethereum Classic was the introduction of the Emerald Wallet, a desktop wallet that allows users to store, send, and receive ETC securely.
